572AC Front Barrel Support

Customer’s Problem

The customer previously purchased two 572AC machines (TT-9064) that were customized to hold shotgun barrels; however, the magazine feed tube underneath the barrel did not limit the depth the barrel could be inserted into the collet. This limited how short the barrel could be cut and the customer wanted them much shorter.

Tri Tool’s Solution

Tri Tool suggested the barrels be inserted from the back side, with the muzzle of the barrel sticking out of the front. Now that the magazine ring could be much closer to the collet, the barrel could be cut much shorter. Tri Tool developed a kit that mounted to the back of the machine's base plate. The collet still offered a firm hold on the barrel while the two new adjustable supports kept it from dropping off after the cut. The supports along the track could be adjusted to accommodate a variety of different barrel lengths. The supports could also be adjusted up and down to support barrels with different diameters (breach vs muzzle). Soft foam pads were added to the v-blocks which protected the barrel's finish from scratches while cutting it to length.

Benefits

With the new kit, the customer's tool supports and cuts barrels of varying lengths and sizes. With the support system locked into place, the customer has a much easier time making more accurate adjustments for barrels, making them more competitive versus other shops.
