Configurable Flange Facing Tools

Explore Tri Tool’s configurable flange-facing systems, engineered for precision, reliability, and performance in any environment. Designed for field machining professionals who demand accuracy and efficiency, our tools adapt to your exact specifications.

Precision Flange Facing You Can Configure, Not Overbuild

Every seal depends on the flat. With Tri Tool’s configurable flange-facing systems, you get the flexibility you need and the precision you expect. Choose the diameter range, mounting style, drive system, and tooling options that match your operation  then let us engineer the rest.

Why Flange Facing Matters

Flanges are the critical junctions in your piping systems. A misaligned or warped flange face can cost you leaks, rework, environmental exposure, and unplanned downtime. Proper flange-facing restores the mating surface to spec and ensures long-term reliability.

Key benefits of precision-facing include:

  • Secure, leak-free seals

  • Extended flange & gasket life

  • Reduced maintenance & rework costs

  • Compliance with ASME / API standards

Even slight imperfections can compromise a joint, that’s where Tri Tool steps in with tools built to deliver flatness, finish, and repeatability in the field.

Flange Face Finishes

Every gasketed connection depends on the right surface. The flange face finish determines how the gasket seats, seals, and performs under pressure, and Tri Tool’s systems are built to deliver each finish with precision and repeatability.
In accordance with ASME B16.5 and B46.1, our equipment can be configured to achieve the exact surface roughness and pattern your specification requires.

Common flange face finishes include:

The most common finish across industries, a continuous spiral (or phonographic) groove that forms a reliable, friction-based seal. When compressed, the gasket material molds into the grooves to create a tight, leak-resistant surface. This finish delivers dependable performance in most service conditions.
A continuous spiral groove cut with a 90-degree tool, creating sharp, “V”-shaped serrations. The pattern enhances gasket grip and helps prevent blowout under vibration or pressure changes. Tri Tool’s configurable machines can fine-tune feed rate and depth to meet ASME standards every time.
Concentric serrations form evenly spaced circular grooves across the flange face. This pattern ensures uniform gasket compression and consistent sealing pressure — ideal for repeat maintenance or high-cycle environments.
Designed for metallic gaskets such as double-jacketed or corrugated types, a smooth finish allows clean metal-to-metal contact with minimal surface roughness. It’s the right choice when precision alignment and flatness are critical to the seal.
Used when two metal faces seal directly without a gasket, the cold-water finish produces an exceptionally smooth, mirror-like surface. This is often specified in high-purity or chemical-service applications where the tightest possible seal is required.

Whether you’re working to a standard ASME B16.5 spec or need a custom surface profile, Tri Tool engineers can configure your flange-facing system to deliver the exact finish you need, in any environment.

Flange-facing is rarely “one size fits all.” Each job brings variables like size, access, and mounting constraints. Tri Tool’s systems are configurable,  not generic,  so you get the right tool, faster.

Configuration options include:

  • Diameter ranges from compact 2” flanges to large-scale 60”+ systems

  • Mount styles: ID-mount, OD-mount, or surface-mount

  • Drive options: manual, pneumatic, hydraulic

  • Customizable feed rates, cutter heads, toolholders

  • Adaptable tooling to match material or finish requirements

With these building blocks, we help you match your system, no overengineering, no wasted material.
