Introduction to Tri Tool Products and Services

Tri Tool has led the way for over 30 years with innovative pipe machining equipment to provide customers with the best equipment possible. Our wide range of tools, designed for ease of operation, deliver maximum performance to produce expert results and save you time and money. Tri Tool's state-of-the-art "cold cutting" equipment, eliminates Heat Affected Zones (HAZ) and cut-back requirements and minimizes fire hazards. Simultaneous cutting and beveling capabilities minimizes material loss for component replacement and/or repairs. Options are available for remote operations in hazardous areas. For clean room use, continuous chips produced by our tube squaring and severing tool prevent particulate contamination associated with grinders and saws. Let our experienced sales staff determine exactly the right equipment and accessories to satisfy your specific requirements. Tri Tool Services℠ has an experienced staff of qualified technicians, equipped with our latest machinery, to perform on-site machining services. Tri Tool equipment is available for rent from four locations, as a fast and economical option for occasional or emergency needs. Our TPS subsidiary can also perform service work on your site with Tri Tool trained and experienced United Association Pipe Fitters. Call today for more information!
Tri Tool Machining Operations
ID Mount End Prep Beveling
The following series of illustrations show standard machining operations (with equipment removed for visibility)
The ID mounted beveling operation utilizes an expandable mandrel which is slid into the open end of the pipe. A draw nut is tightened, which expands the mandrel blocks up a ramp and against the ID surface for positive mounting, self centered and squared to the bore. As the tool bit is fed into the material from the end, a bevel is produced which conforms to the angle predetermined by the angle ground into the bit. Bits are available for practically any material or beveling angle required, and bits can be custom made for any form tooling operation.

OD Mount In-Line Severing and Beveling

The split frame design of the "Clamshell" lathe allows the machine to separate and mount around the OD of the in-line pipe or fittings for strong, stable clamping.

Clamshells perform precision in-line sever or simultaneous sever/bevel operations, as well as weld end preparation and counterboring on open ended pipe.
Tube Severing

For precision tube severing, a narrow sever bit is fed perpendicularly into the tube OD. The clamping method shown uses collets which are drawn into an outer ring with a tapered bore, providing positive, full contact grip.
Tube Squaring

Tube Squaring produces burr-free ends, critical for orbital welding. Feed is parallel to the centerline of the tube. Saddle style clamping uses two opposing saddles for precise positioning and to prevent tube distortion.
Single Point Machining

While single point machining (OD or ID mounted machines) the tool bit can be fed into multiple directions. This allows a wide range of bevel angle combinations for any compound weld profile, including counterbores.
Flange Facing

Flange Facing is accomplished by refacing the surface of the flange to perfectly flat and square. By changing bit feed and speed, a wide range of surface finishes is possible, to properly match flange sealing materials.

As pipe cutting profiles become larger in size or include complex compound bevel angles and counterbores, time and cost saving benefits of precision machined end preps increase dramatically.
